she’s one

i remember holding lenna when she was three months old and finding a cake bunting decoration and thinking it was just about the sweetest thing.  i bookmarked it and hoped i’d remember it nine months later (i’m usually really good at the bookmarking/saving of ideas but horrible at the remembering i bookmarked them part).  well, i did remember, and it turned out to be one of the cutest things ever.  i had the bunting made and thought for a split second that a pink cake stand would look pretty cute with it but would never actually go out and get a pink cake stand for one party (where do you even find a pink cake stand??).  a couple of hours later a friend came over with a cake for bible study and wouldn’t you know it was sitting on top of a pink (properly shaded even) cake stand.  i made a desperate plea to borrow the stand and a few seconds later i was the proud owner of a pink cake stand.  lenna can now count on having a certain pink platter for her cakes here on out.

we celebrated with family last night and there was singing and eating and more singing and more eating.  she partied way past her bedtime.  but once everyone left and my little 16 lb ball of energy finally slowed down and rested in my arms, i thanked God again that he gave her to us and that he saw her safely through her first year.  we love you, lenna.

i sing this to lenna each night as i put her in bed.  it’s even sweeter when her two brothers join in on the singing:

The Lord bless you and keep you
the Lord make his face shine upon you
and give you peace
and give you peace
and give you peace forever

The Lord be gracious to you
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace
and give you peace
and give you peace forever

  1. This post makes me yearn for normalcy in our lives again. You’re such a good mama. I hope the day was as good for you as it was for little Lenna. xo!

  2. Kate,
I LOVE the cake! I might even have to borrow the idea for Helen’s first birthday coming up in six months. We can’t wait to see you guys in a few weeks. Oh, and by the way, Darren and I sing the same song every night to our littles:)

  3. Kate, Best idea ever. I love this song too. Will sing it to myself all week since I’m working on “stirring up my heart.” Asher and I had our best day ever.
