what’s a birthday without crepes, lamb, farro, and tarts?

omar turned 34 yesterday.  last year i was less than a month away from having lenna and felt like i had been pregnant for about 28 months.  omar was gracious and settled for a slightly underwhelming dinner at outback.  bless him.

this year i tried to make things up to him.  first up, crepes for breakfast.  elisha’s favorite filling was the simple fresh squeezed lemon juice and a little sprinkle of sugar.  i loved the maple yogurt with blueberry compote and fresh whipped cream.

for dinner omar tossed out lamb as an idea, so a roast leg of lamb with a salsa verde (quite chimichurri-esque) made it onto the menu.  as did asparagus and a farro salad with tomato, cucumber, red pepper (read: many of the csa veggies we were trying to get rid of), olives, and feta.  following in another 2011 birthday meal tradition all of the recipes were from Michael’s Genuine Food: Down-to-Earth Cooking for People Who Love to Eat. but i think the tradition ended last night as i don’t see either of the boys (voluntarily) choosing their meal from those pages.

a lemon tart ended the day and all were happy.
