to paint

little lenna is finally getting a crib and a more permanent carved out space to call her own.  today i was scanning the martha stewart paint palette, and i immediately envisioned her room:  slate gray walls with mustard yellow, gray, and white curtains, a black jenny lind crib, my brother’s old dresser painted black with shiny new hardware.  and then i tallied the cost and got exhausted just thinking about the process.  alternate plan is to leave the wall color as is, paint the old dresser white, buy a crib and bumper and call it a day.  it was fun to think about, though.  there are still a few creative juices flowing, even if it doesn’t involve gray walls.  i’m eyeing this wreath and a couple wire frames.

elisha would paint for half the day if he had his way.  i have stacks upon stacks of paintings by both boys.  i’m quite impressed with myself that i can quite quickly decipher which painting belongs with each boy.  asher is finally breaking out of his “black period.”  he branched out into pink and teal today.  finally.

  1. I’ve been looking over the martha paint colors, too. we have a big job to do over the christmas break: new windows (some are rotting), replacing rotten exterior wood, and finally exterior paint. it exhausts both of us to think of it.
funny, i wanted a slate gray exterior and orange door. Ande is not into gray or orange doors. 🙂

  2. We have our orange door paint picked out, too (I think my husband is a little reticent, but I think he’s seen some good outcomes on other bold paint moves, so he’s okay with it. 🙂

Kate, can’t wait to see the final results!

  3. hey lady. just seeing this… we just painted cora’s room dove gray and decked her big-girl bed out with some fun west-elm bedding, but the paint idea comes from you and our time in miami when you picked out paint colors for the new house: the low-voc paints at home depot ended up having the best gray shade. it’s hard to find one that doesn’t look purple or blue or brown. so, fyi, in case you haven’t made up your mind yet.
and it looks lovely with her yellow ikea dresser. 🙂
