vizcaya is now crossed off the “miami to-do list.” it is a place both beautiful and strange. it was built in miami in 1916 when miami was still young and quite small. and evidently if you have gobs of money you, too, can move to a swampland and build a house and estate that is meant to look like an italian villa. but not just any villa – a villa that appears to be 400 years old and has been lived in and renovated by several generations of a family spanning the 15th through 19th centuries. whew.
it is kind of odd to think that our house is only a few blocks away and built around the same time. yet ours is strangely missing the dumbwaiter, library, marble tub, and a servant call system.
