oh february

what do you do on a february day when the oldest kiddo has the sniffles and looks pretty run down?  make granola.  omar would be proud of me.  i often bring home all the trappings for granola.  but then it all just sits.  and sits.  one time i tried my hand at a martha stewart granola recipe.  our house smelled like horse for about a week as a result.  perhaps it was the toasted wheat germ.  yuck.  i found another recipe for granola i thought looked promising but at the moment i have no idea where it is.  so i tried my hand at the maple butter nut granola from feeding the whole family, mentioned here a few posts back.  quite yummy, even if i made a few changes and additions.  but not the best.  then i saw that orangette’s weekly post is about granola.  i’ll try that one in the next week or so.  any beloved granola recipes are welcomed – as long as they don’t stink up my house.

  1. When I saw “oh february” I thought “O! February” not because I saw a big o with an ! but because around here February = the month after everyone diets because they ate too much from Nov-Dec and = the month after they get Christmas bills and can start thinking (a bit) about doing a special food thing for I heart u day. :0 Funny how February means different things to different folks (alliteration intended)…

  2. This is my favorite granola recipe: Simpson House Granola
    4 cups rolled oats
    3/4 cup sunflower seeds
    3/4 cup shredded coconut
    3/4 cup almonds
    1/4 cup sesame seeds
    1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
    2/3 cup honey
    1/3 cup canola oil

Mix dry. Mix honey and oil. Mix wet and dry together. Spread on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 325 for 30-40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. Makes the house smell cinnamony! 🙂
